ENGINEERING HEARTS® EDU
Education curriculum coming soon...
Engineers make many design decisions with technology and although machines are innately logical, they lack empathy. So, the outcomes of their programs will have intended, unintended, and derivative consequences for companies, consumers and society. "Ethical intelligence" (Marion et al., 2020), or "doing the right thing" will not only become more challenging as digital systems become increasingly complex but also necessary. Engineering Hearts® helps critically examine engineering design choices through a socio-technical ethical lens.
The reality is engineering rarely mixes with the study of human behavior, and rarer still with the study of ethics and human values. But standards are beginning to develop at the crossroads between human behavior, ethics, value systems and engineering. In part, the IEEE software and systems engineering standards inspired the Engineering Hearts® design research method and educational approach. Some of the P7000 family of IEEE standards' value propositions are shared below.

TECHNOLOGY PROBLEMS ARE PEOPLE PROBLEMS.
Between the 1st line of code and consequence - intended or not- is a universe of human choices for good, bad or neutral. Every line of code represents a language of human choice. We must proceed with deliberation and purpose.
